Omusubi Cafe," connecting the atmosphere of the old Nakasendo road to the future
Itago rice store
It is a storehouse structure standing in the Nakayado shopping street and was built in 1914 as a rice grain store. It was renovated in December 2019, and is now a busy Omusubi Cafe with Omusubi as its signature product.
The Nakasendo highway, one of the roads developed during the Edo period (1603-1867), had 69 stops, and the first stop after leaving Nihonbashi was Itabashi-juku. Itago Rice Store is located in the Nakajuku shopping district in the center of Itabashi-juku, and is registered as a tangible cultural property of the ward because it retains the atmosphere of an inn town. It is worth a visit to see the building that has watched over the town's changes for more than 100 years, from Taisho, Showa, Heisei, and 2039.
