The Last Place of Isamu Kondo, Director of the Shinsengumi

In 1868, Isamu Kondo, the director of the Shinsengumi, was captured in Nagareyama and sent to the main camp of the new government forces at Itabashijuku, where he was executed. The grave of Kondo Isamu is located near where he was executed, in front of the current Itabashi Station East Exit. The grave of Isamu Kondo was started by Shinpachi Nagakura, a member of the Shinsengumi. Kondo Isamu's grave was started by Nagakura Shinpachi, a Shinsengumi soldier, and is dedicated to him along with his second-in-command, Hijikata Toshizo, who was killed in Hakodate, and about one hundred and ten other Shinsengumi members.
