A steep slope that was said to be the first difficult part of the old Nakasendo.
clear-cut hill
It is a steep slope that descends from the Shimura plateau to the lowlands of the Arakawa River basin, with a large bend in the road that is said to have been the only place on the highway where one could see Mt. There used to be a temple called Daizenji on the right side of the hill. Yoshimune, the eighth Tokugawa shogun, who took a rest here while hunting hawks, named the temple's Yakushi Nyorai (Yakushi Buddha) "Kiyomizu Yakushi" because of the splendid spring water from the cliff.
