During the Edo period, an ascetic named Ofuku visited the intersection of Kamakura Kaido and Kawagoe Kaido (near the current intersection at the entrance to Nihon University Hospital). Since Ofuku lived in Oyama and devoted the rest of his life to helping sentient beings, he was later enshrined as Ofuku Jizo by the local people of Oyama.
