Two Jizo statues, symbols of the shopping district
guardian Ksitigarbha of childbirth (bodhisattva)
These two round carved Jizo statues have become a symbol of the Kamiitabashi South Exit Shopping Street. The Jizo on the left was built in 1777, and the one on the right in 1778. The Jizo is closely connected to the local community, as a fair is held on the old Kawagoe Road in front of the Jizo Hall.
