Remembering the Shimura Castle of the past
Shimura Castle Ruins and Kumano Shrine
Shimura Castle was associated with the Chiba clan and functioned as a vanguard base for Akatsuka Castle. The Kumano Shrine is located in the second circle of the castle, and is said to have been built in 1042 by the Shimura clan, a powerful local clan, from Kumano, Kishu. Isanagi-no-mikoto was the guardian deity of Shimura Castle.
