The temple was founded in 1340 during the Muromachi period. The statue of Amida Nyorai, the main deity of the temple, is considered to be a secret Buddha. In July 1874, Beniume School, the predecessor of Beniume Elementary School, the oldest elementary school in the district, opened in this area.
