Itaya Park
It is the oldest park in Itabashi Ward, having opened on April 29, 1937 under the name "Tokyo City Itaya Park. It is the oldest park in Itabashi Ward. The history of Itaya Park reflects the history of the Itabashi 3 and 4-Chome area.
The area around Itabashi 3 and 4 chome, where Itaya Park is located, used to be the Edo residence of the Kaga clan in the Edo period. In the Meiji era (1868-1912), the area became the property of Sango Shokai and was called "Sango Nohara" or "Sango Gahara. In the Showa era (1926-1989), Miyakichi Itaya, who ran a shipping company, tried to build a large-scale residential area called "Kamimiyonodai" on this land through land readjustment. At the time, the national government required that the land be reserved for a park, so Mr. Itaya offered the land to the city of Tokyo free of charge, and the city constructed and opened the park. The nameplate installed at the time of the park's opening can still be seen on the gate post at the park's entrance.
