The Great Buddha of Tokyo will be the third largest in Japan when completed.
Jorenji Temple (Great Buddha of Tokyo)
In 1971, the temple was moved from Nakajuku, Itabashi-ku to its current location in Akatsuka.
In the precincts of the temple, there are unique stone statues of hermits, demons, and bodhisattvas that belonged to the former Todo family, as well as a memorial tower for the Tenpo famine and other cultural assets designated by the ward. The Great Buddha of Tokyo, which sits on the right side of the temple gate, was built in 1977 to prevent tragic disasters such as the Great Kanto Earthquake from occurring. It is 13 meters high, made of bronze, weighs 32 tons, and was selected as one of the 100 New Tokyo Views by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government in 1982.
